Tax Break for Haiti Relief Donations Signed Into Law
President Obama has signed legislation (HR 4462) that allows a 2009 charitable contribution deduction for U.S. taxpayers who donate prior to 2/28/2010 to organizations participating in the emergency and rebuilding efforts in Haiti. He signed the bill after unanimous consent in both the House and the Senate. Any taxpayers who make a donation to Haiti relief efforts before March 1, 2010, can claim those contributions on their 2009 income tax return.
